Book a Call

Welcome!

I'm Gavin.

To share my experience, I teach recruiters to become better recruiters and put the candidate central so they can be more successful.

I hope to contribute to making our industry more respected by candidates and clients alike.

I decided to start this online training because I want recruiters to find it easier to be successful in their job. I also feel strongly about the bashing our industry is getting from candidates and therefore I would like to contribute to treating them better and giving us agency recruiters a better rep.

Luckily treating candidates better will lead you to better sales and I will teach you how.   I started recruiting in an agency end 2004. I had never done a commercial role before. Previously I had been working for a company that was slowly but surely firing all the middle management. I had a very political role that I did not enjoy anymore. I had started looking for something else but did not know in which direction to go. My (lack of) qualifications could not help me get my next job. My experience was very varied but I had no specialisation so I was difficult to place. Several friends had said I should go into sales but at 34 I had no commercial experience to show. Then a friend said that his brother was looking for a recruiter as he was starting up his own agency. I had no idea what it entailed so I spent half a day with him looking and listening to what he did. I felt like I could do it.

It all started off very smoothly as my new boss walked me through the recruitment process and within a bit over 2 weeks a first placement was made. I thought this was going to be easy.

I was wrong!

I had to do the next placement all by myself. My boss was there if I had questions but I had to do the work. It took me over 3 months to do my first placement alone. It was a harrowing experience that gave me a lot of self-doubt and several times I thought I would not manage and whether recruitment and sales was really something for me. However I persevered and finally made my first placement. The second placement was a bit easier and took less long. The next few gradually got easier and within 9 months I felt like I had the hang of it. It wasn't exactly easy yet but I knew the motions I had to go through. I was still learning new tricks everyday but I was beating the competition to placements.

Over the following years in different agencies I have seen most aspects of agency recruitment and learnt a lot of things that should and should not be done. I have now come to the stage where it is time to share this knowledge with you who maybe are starting off or who have been a recruiter for a number of years but not had the chance of having a good trainer or coach and therefore feel like you can improve on your game.
